Vacancy - Field Trials Officer

We are recruiting a Field Trials Officer to join our dynamic trials team and help provide evidence-based solutions to sugar beet farming problems.

Field Trials Officer

Base:                  Bexwell, Downham Market

Salary:                £30,000 - £35,000 PA - (depending on experience)

Working Hours:  35 hours per week basic, plus additional seasonal hours when required

Position:             Full-Time, Permanent


At the BBRO, we conduct research to help the UK sugar beet industry improve yields sustainably. One element of our work is to deliver high standard agricultural trials at a number of farm sites across the sugar beet growing area.


Reporting to the Trials Manager, you will work closely with other BBRO Field Trials Officers on our high-quality, field-based sugar beet trials. You will be involved in a whole range of tasks including precision drilling, crop monitoring and completing trials assessments, as well as harvesting our trial plots using bespoke sugar beet trials equipment.

We are looking for a candidate from an agricultural or agricultural field trials background, with an understanding and proven experience using agricultural and/or trials machinery. The job requires that you hold PA1 and PA6 pesticide application qualifications and a full driving licence is essential.

Desirable, though not essential, experience required: -

  • Knowledge of the use of RTK precision farming techniques
  • Drone based agricultural survey experience


This role is for you if you are keen and self-motivated with a positive, resilient, “can do” attitude. You need to be able to effectively prioritise and carry out tasks, show attention to detail, meet deadlines and follow systems and protocols whilst running and monitoring first class field trials. You will have the ability to communicate well with your colleagues and parties external to the organisation.
