We are currently recruiting for a Field Trials Operator to join our trials team and help provide evidence-based solutions to sugar beet farming problems.

BBRO - the go-to source of advice for sugar beet growers

At the BBRO, www.bbro.co.uk, we conduct research to help the UK sugar beet industry improve yields sustainably and increase the profitability of sugar beet in the crop rotation on farms.  One element of our work is to deliver high-standard agricultural field trials at a number of farm sites across the sugar beet growing area.  We are a dynamic organisation with a friendly team, all enthusiastic about agriculture and making a difference for UK growers.  We are also very supportive of each other and are proud of our values: ‘Trust, Innovation, Approachable and Industry-leading’.

The work of a Field Trials Operator

Reporting to BBRO’s Head of Field Operations, you will work on our field-based sugar beet trials and will be involved in a whole range of tasks through the year including precision drilling, crop monitoring, completing trials assessments and harvesting trial plots using our bespoke sugar beet trials equipment.

Skills set needed

You need to come from a commercial agricultural or agricultural field trials background, with an understanding and proven experience using agricultural and/or trials machinery and tractor-driving.  This job requires that you hold a full driving licence and trailer towing licence.

Desirable, though not essential proficiencies include telehandler qualification, BASIS, FACTS and PA1, PA2 and PA6 pesticide application qualifications.

Attitude and determination

This role is for you if you are keen and self-motivated with a positive, resilient, “can-do” attitude.  You need to be able to effectively prioritise and carry out tasks, give attention to detail, meet deadlines and follow systems whilst running and monitoring first class field trials.  You will have the ability to communicate well with your colleagues and parties external to the organisation.

What BBRO offers

This role in our team includes a business needs vehicle as a taxable benefit because towing heavy trailers and other equipment is an essential part of the job in carrying out our field trials and demonstrations.

As part of our team we offer a number of benefits including:

  • Training and personal development
  • Good pension package
  • Private healthcare

We are an equal opportunities employer and applicants are welcome to apply regardless of age, disability, gender, marital status, race, nationality or ethnic origin, religion, or sexual orientation.

Employment will be subject to the appropriate pre-employment checks, including getting references.
