We are currently recruiting for a lively and enthusiastic individual to support differing aspects of trial and research delivery throughout the year.
BBRO - the go-to source of advice for sugar beet growers
At the BBRO, www.bbro.co.uk, we conduct research to help the UK sugar beet industry improve yields sustainably and increase the profitability of sugar beet in the crop rotation on farms. One element of our work is to deliver high-standard agricultural field trials at a number of farm sites across the sugar beet growing area. We are a dynamic organisation with a friendly team, all enthusiastic about agriculture and making a difference for UK growers. We are also very supportive of each other and are proud of our values: ‘Trust, Innovation, Approachable and Industry-leading’.
The work of a Trials and Research Support Assistant
The role will be 75% field-based and will involve the collection of data and samples relating to the sugar beet crop. The role also offers the opportunity to work with the laboratory team on our aphid monitoring survey in the spring, giving a good overview of agricultural research.
The placement will cover the following 4 main areas:
- Sugar Beet Variety assessments including assessing variety canopy characteristics, analysing crop characteristics and utilising remote sensing imagery
- Assessing damage during harvest and storage, leading to sugar loss
- Aphid Monitoring : identifying aphids caught in the annual aphid monitoring survey and assisting in other areas of the survey including inoculating field trials
- Participating in events and grower meetings.
Skills set required
You do not need to come from an agricultural, field trials or research background as training will be given. However, you must have a full UK driving licence and the ability to communicate well with your colleagues.
Attitude and determination
This role is for you if you are keen and self-motivated with a positive, resilient, “can-do” attitude. You need to be able to effectively prioritise and carry out tasks, give attention to detail, meet deadlines and follow instructions and protocols. This would make an ideal placement for a recent graduate.
We are an equal opportunities employer and applicants are welcome to apply regardless of age, disability, gender, marital status, race, nationality or ethnic origin, religion, or sexual orientation.
Salary £18,000.00 per annum plus benefits.
