Continued delivery of value and excellence in sugar beet research to growers and the UK sugar industry
Everything we do at BBRO is designed with you in mind and earlier in the year we launched our three-year strategy (BBRO 3-year Strategy - BBRO) that sets-out our direction of travel to ensure your BBRO remains fit for the future.
Our mission is clear: to undertake and implement research and knowledge exchange to increase the competitiveness of the UK sugar beet industry in a financially and environmentally sustainable manner.
To meet the demands of the industry, and to deliver excellent research and knowledge exchange, and against a backdrop of increased inflationary pressures and to avoid eroding our reserves, we have looked long and hard at our funding and what we can deliver to maintain the service we provide for you in the future.
We will therefore be increasing the levy by 4p/t from 14p/t to 18p/t for both growers and British Sugar – a decision approved by NFU Sugar and British Sugar (BBRO Executive Board). This will apply from the 2023/24 crop.
Your increased contribution will ensure we:
- Continue to find solutions to Virus Yellows and foliar disease with a focus on cercospora
- Improve management of soils, drought and carbon on-farm
- Progress the Recommended List trials and testing of new variety traits
- Support authorisations for Plant Protection Products
- Further targeted knowledge exchange activities
BBRO is ‘Your BBRO’, and we remain committed to delivering value to you now, and in the years to come. If you wish to speak to me or any of the BBRO leadership team, please get in touch with us by calling 01603 672 163 or email info@bbro.co.uk
