This new project lead by BS, JIC and Tropic will harness the wide-ranging knowledge, skills and capabilities within BBRO against virus yellows to assist with the assessment of future outputs from this project. Head of Science Prof Mark Stevens welcomed the news and highlighted that aphids and virus yellows remains one of the largest ongoing threats to UK sugar beet production, particularly as increasingly milder winters exacerbates this annual threat to production, and the development of all available technologies, including GE, to provide sustainable IPM approaches to this disease complex is critical.
