The BBRO, www.bbro.co.uk, is a dynamic organisation with a friendly team, who are enthusiastic about agriculture and making a difference for sugar beet growers. We conduct research to help the UK sugar beet industry increase profitability and sustainably improve yields. One element of our work is to deliver high-quality field trials at several sites across the sugar beet growing area.

WHAT’S THE LOCATION? Based at Downham Market with regular travel to offsite trial locations across East Anglia.

HOW WILL I BE REWARDED? Competitive industry salary circa £28,000 (dependant on experience) and excellent training and personal development opportunities. A business needs vehicle will be provided.

WHAT DOES THE ROLE ENTAIL? Reporting to the BBRO’s Head of Field Operations, working on our field-based sugar beet trials:-

  • Being responsible for performing tasks across multiple trial sites working on experimental project work including sugar beet variety testing, plant protection product evaluations, IPM strategy deployment & sustainability projects
  • Working individually and as a member of the field trials team with our science leads to deliver trials
  • Conducting trial assessments/monitoring/ accurate data recording
  • Using machinery for the delivery of field trials and conducting general machinery maintenance
  • Ensuring timely delivery of all trial work against the agreed protocols
  • Travelling to trial sites across the beet growing area
  • Being responsible for machinery operations, maintenance, and associated paperwork
  • Supporting the development of standard operating protocols and risk assessments to maintain high standards of health and safety
  • Ensuring that all personal work is conducted to the required legal and company safety standards

Qualifications/Education/Experience/Soft Skills requirements:

  • Experience in working in an agricultural environment
  • Good level of understanding of agriculture practice
  • Tractor driving experience
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Good written and verbal English skills
  • Good PC skills
  • Good communication, time management and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated with an ability to work effectively alone as well as within a team
  • Proactive and “Can do” attitude
  • Happy to work in an outdoor field environment, sometimes under challenging weather conditions. 

Desirable experience:

  • An agricultural college/University qualification
  • Trailer Towing (Licence/qualification)
  • PA1,PA2, PA4 PA6 desirable but not essential (training and tests will be provided).
  • Telehandler qualification
